The stiffness of the frame is always the subject of much attention. Mike Kazimer, reporter at Pinkbike, describes the META TR 29 as one of the funnest bikes he’s ridden! Plus, the TR shows liveness and is playful when it comes to the terrain and pumping for speed etc.

Thanks to 140mm of rear travel and the 150mm or 160mm fork, it tackles most obstacles without hesitation. The TR is seamlessly capable of transcending from uphill to downhill and soaking up all types of lumps and bumps in between. The result is a particularly harmonious bike, a formidable pedaller and ideal companion for long active rides. A straighter seat angle (and reduced offset). Reworked and modifiable kinematics making the bike more dynamic. We got the result we wanted thanks to a few key points: A visual would certainly help and may be available on the internet somewhere. When we developed the META TR 29, our intentions were clear - to make a bike that performs very well uphill but that also retains the COMMENCAL downhill DNA. Hopefully the above explanation helps clarify this geometry change with front fork compression. The reach growing is true even if your BB is above the rear axle, but I don’t want to get too into the nitty gritty. This movement causes the start of line A to move forward while the vertical line B moves rearward, so the length of line A from the head tube to the intersection with line B grows. The BB which is below the rear axle, rotates downward and rearward. Since the head tube is above the rear axle, it moves forward and downward. So if a point on the frame is vertically above the rear axle, it first moves forward then down for example. Reach is the length of a line (call it A) drawn horizontally from the top-center of the head tube back to where that line intersects with another line (call it B) which is drawn vertically from the center of the BB.Īs the fork compresses the frame rotates around the rear axle, so every point on the frame must move on an arc which is centered on the rear axle.

9/breaking-news-425mm-chainstays-still-suck I’m not singletrackman but perhaps I can answer your question. It’s the 20’s now, “what the F is with the CS lengths from the teens” is what you should be bitching about. I would be way more concerned with the same chain stay length on the XL as the S. An XXL V10 has a 475mm reach and that reach number doesn’t grow when you sit on the bike like on a HT. Why the want for a super long reach if you don’t need to have a super steep seat angle anyway? DH bikes don’t have crazy long reaches. If you run a super trendy long reach with a 74* seat angle on a HT, your TT gets crazy long screwing up the fit and stretching you way out when seated and pedaling. Going down hill or in a hard turn and having more weight on the front end compressing the fork even more and the reach would probably be more like 500mm.Īnother thing too is that being a HT you don’t need to run a 78* seat angle or whatever to keep you forward on the bike when climbing while your rear sus is compressing because it doesn’t have rear suspension. So for this bike, with 25% sag the reach would be about 490 for the XL riding flat terrain. On a HT the reach will actually grow about 10mm for every 20mm of fork travel compression.
